201601 - January/February, 2016
Dear Friends:

“Generosity” has been the hallmark of these winter holiday weeks at Temple Israel. I have been so inspired and proud of our Temple community. Members from the youngest students in our Religious School, and throughout our laity, have all done so much to bring joy and achievement to our endeavours.

First, our annual “Share the Warmth” social action project, which culminated during our Chanukah party Dec 13, was a tremendous success. It was a powerful statement of the caring of our community, especially our Religious School children, that we gathered bags of gifts for the family we sponsored through LIFE*SPIN. We hope that this family of 7 has a joyful Christmas, and feels the loving support of community, despite their adverse circumstances.

Second, momentum has begun to explore an avenue to support Syrian refugees coming to our community. We gathered clothing during Share the Warmth, and volunteers from Temple will be reaching out to community partners and resources to identify ways we can contribute most effectively to this effort. Our congregation’s continuing support of multi-faith initiatives is a source of pride we can all share.

Finally, within our Temple community we have also been blessed by dozens of tireless volunteers who have given their time and money to support the Temple and its programming. From latke-makers to donors, many, many individuals have pitched in to make our Chanukah, Shabbat, and  educational programs an amazing success. No detail is too small, and no project too great, for our lay leaders and the many members who have made our celebrations and activities an accomplishment whose benefit we all enjoy.

Kol Hakavod to the generous spirit of our Temple Israel family.

May you and your families enjoy a happy and healthy winter season.

Rabbi Debra Dressler
